Davidson County TN Homes

Beautiful Davidson County, TN homes are designed and developed to accommodate the county’s growing population of approximately 607,000 residents. Located in picturesque Middle Tennessee, the county seat of Davidson County is the booming city of Nashville.

The City of Nashville, also referred to as “Music City USA,” merged with the Davidson County government in 1963. Since the merge, Davidson County government is now known as the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, or simply “Metro Nashville” for short.

The original state boundary line of North Carolina extended all the way to the Mississippi River. The North Carolina Legislature created Washington County in 1777, a county that encompassed the area of what is now the state of Tennessee, and Davidson County was designated from a portion of Washington County in 1783.

The Cumberland River flows through the middle of the county, from east to west. Located near Davidson County, TN homes, you’ll find two dams within the county: the Old Hickory Lock and Dam and the J. Percy Priest Dam, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Significant tributaries of Davidson County’s Cumberland River include Whites Creek, Manskers Creek, Stones River, Mill Creek, and the Harpeth River.

Adjacent counties to Davidson County include Robertson County, Sumner County, Wilson County, Rutherford County, Williamson County, and Cheatham County.

Cities and Towns in Davidson County

There are several incorporated and unincorporated cities and towns located within Davidson County. Davidson County, TN homes are ideally situated in a variety of areas, including the cities/towns of Antioch, Belle Meade, Donelson, Forest Hills, Berry Hill, Goodlettsville, Hermitage, Lakewood, Oak Hill, Old Hickory, Ridgetop, and of course, Nashville.

Antioch is a lovely suburb of Nashville, and is located in the southern part of Davidson County. Governed by the Nashville-Davidson metropolitan government, the name of the community is derived from the Antioch First Baptist Church, which was established here in 1810. Until its boom in the 1970s, Antioch was a small community, catering primarily to the needs of local farmers.  When the explosive growth of Antioch occurred during the 1970s, many new Davidson County, TN homes and low-rise apartment complexes emerged. In 1978, the Hickory Hollow Mall was built, and this suburban shopping center presently features anchor department stores such as Sears, Macy’s and Dillard’s.

Today, Antioch is a small community attracting many families who are seeking tranquil living in close proximity to Nashville. The affordable Davidson County, TN homes in Antioch are also a big attraction for families and young professionals. Just a few miles south of Antioch is where you’ll find the Starwood Amphitheatre, one of Nashville’s main outdoor music venues.

The City of Belle Meade is located within the city of Nashville and is an unincorporated municipality. Belle Meade was absorbed into the metropolitan government of Nashville-Davidson County in 1963, but it still retains its independent city status. People who reside in Davidson County, TN homes in Belle Meade pay taxes both to the Metro government and to the City of Belle Meade, helping to support the city’s own police force, mayor, and city hall. A famous resident of Belle Meade is former Vice President and 2000 Presidential Candidate Al Gore. Belle Meade is an affluent area, with an average annual income of around $145,000.

The small city of Berry Hill in Davidson County is home to a population of fewer than 700 residents. As part of the Metropolitan Nashville, the city was originally owned by William Tyler Berry and his descendents. In February of 1950, people who owned Davidson County, TN homes in Berry Hill voted to incorporate as a city, making Berry Hill the first community to incorporate since the City of Belle Meade incorporated in 1938.

Although it remains an official part of Metro Nashville, Berry Hill maintains its municipal status as a city and has a commission-manager form of government. The city has its own police department, as well as trash pickup services.  The average income for a household in Berry Hill is around $30,000 per year.

Another suburb of Nashville is Donelson, located east of downtown Nashville along U.S. Highway 70. The unincorporated city is named after John Donelson, co-founder of Nashville, and father-in-law of Andrew Jackson. Donelson is incorporated as part of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. Its development commenced not long after World War II, and its prime location next to Nashville International Airport has contributed to its early and sustained growth.

Donelson is also the site of Donelson Plaza, one of the first shopping centers in the nation to be labeled as a “strip mall.” Many Davidson County, TN homes in Donelson are older, red brick, detached ranch-style homes. During the late 1960s, Percy Priest Lake on the Stones River increased Donelson’s desirability due to the increasing opportunities for summertime recreation.

Donelson is also home to the former Opryland USA theme park, which closed in 1997, and is now the site of the Opry Mills shopping mall and the Grand Ole Opry. Most recently, Donelson now has a stop on the new Music City Star commuter rail line, which began operation in August of 2006. The adjacent suburb of Hermitage shares a Chamber of Commerce with Donelson, as well as a Christmas parade.
The charming community of Hermitage is a section of Metropolitan Nashville, located in Davidson County and named in honor of The Hermitage, famous home to seventh President of the United States, Andrew Jackson. Although the area is incorporated as part of the Nashville/Davidson County metropolitan government, it still maintains its own identity as a residential and commercial suburban area.
Before evolving into the thriving suburb that is Hermitage today, the community was a rural area. Today, Hermitage boasts beautiful Davidson County, TN homes, as well as a highly developed network of retail stores. U.S. Highway 70, Interstate 40, and State Route 45 traverse through Hermitage, and the suburb also has a station on the new Music City Star commuter rail service.
The city of Forest Hills in Davidson County is home to a population of around 4,700 residents. The city is located along US-431, a route known as Hillsboro Pike.

People who live in Davidson County, TN homes in city of Forest Hills are generally considered to be affluent, as the average income for a household in the city is around $125,000, and the average income for a family is closer to $155,000. The per capita income for the city of Forest Hills is the second highest in the state after Belle Meade, at $68,228.

The city of Goodlettsville is home to a population of around 3,000 residents. Incorporated as a city in 1958, much of Goodlettsville is located in Davidson County, with a small portion located in Sumner County. The city is governed by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County in a very limited manner, and operates its own separate governmental entity with a mayor, vice-mayor, and a city commission. Goodlettsville is notably the home of actor James Denton and country music singer Deana Carter. Country singer Garth Brooks also made his home in Goodlettsville, at the pinnacle of his success. The average income for a household in the city of Goodlettsville is estimated to be around $46,000, and the average income for a family is around $54,000.

The Davidson County portion of Goodlettsville has two elementary schools and one middle school, and the city is home to the RiverGate Mall Shopping Center, located at the corner of Rivergate Parkway and Gallatin Pike.

The City of Lakewood is home to a population of around 2,300. It was originally incorporated as Dupontonia in 1959 before changing its name to Lakewood and reincorporating in 1961. The average income for a household in Lakewood is around $37,000, and the average income for a family is estimated to be about $47,000.

Oak Hill has a growing population of around 4,500 and is the home of the Tennessee governor’s mansion. An affluent city, the average median income for a household in Oak Hill is $90,000, with the average income for a family around $105,000.

Old Hickory is a section of metropolitan Nashville named in honor of President Andrew Jackson’s nickname, “Old Hickory.” The city is bordered by the Cumberland River on the north and west, Old Hickory Lake to the east, and the city of Lakewood to its south. Many people choose to purchase Davidson County, TN homes in the Old Hickory area for access to its country club, golf course, and city park. Other points of interest in Old Hickory include Old Hickory Lake and the Old Hickory Lake Arboretum.

The City of Ridgetop is located mostly in Tennessee’s Robertson County, but two small portions extend into Davidson County. The city is home to a population of just over 1,000 residents.
